The PacIOOS Nearshore Sensor team completed an analysis of circulation patterns and residence times of coastal waters in Pōkaʻi Bay on the West side of Oʻahu. Water characteristics (chemistry, physics, currents) were measured across the bay. Parameters like wave conditions, streamflow, and weather data were integrated to include environmental impacts. Findings indicate that the swim area, enclosed by jetties, shows reduced current velocities and limited water exchange, resulting in higher contaminant retention. To read the full report, click here.
